Birkenstock
Rue des archives
2025 / DELIVERED
Birkenstock’s Paris-Marais boutique embodies a core tension that continually inspires us: the balance between industrial production and artisanal expertise.
During our first visit to the Birkenstock workshop, we were captivated by the interplay between hand and machine: a high-volume production process yet meticulously guided by human expertise.Another striking duality in the brand’s products is their ability to be both strictly utilitarian and highly fashionable. We aimed to reflect these correspondences through a space that is both functional and poetic.
At the intersection of Rues des Archives and Sainte-Croix in Le Marais, expansive L-shaped shop windows bathe the boutique’s whitewashed walls in natural light. In collaboration with Côme Clérino of Studio Çocle, we crafted plaster display modules that reinterpret the brand’s iconic footbed moulds, transforming these production tools into bespoke shelving seamlessly integrated with the plastered walls. An aluminium thread frames the mirrors, counter, and wall-mounted displays—echoing the extensive use of aluminium in Birkenstock’s manufacturing process for fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the boutique transcends its role as a retail space, serving as a platform for events and collaborations. It embodies our vision of contemporary design: usage-driven, rooted in craftsmanship, and offering new expressions of sustainable innovation.
